Burt graduated from Cadillac High School in 1965; from Michigan
State University in 1969; and from the esteemed Detroit College of
Law (now known as the Michigan State University School of Law) in
1972.

After passing the bar examination, he was admitted to the State Bar
of Michigan and authorized by the Michigan Supreme Court to
practice law in Michigan. He joined his father, Burton A. Hines, Sr.,
together establishing the law offices of Hines & Hines Attorneys at
Law.  For 25 years, father and son served the community of Cadillac
before Burt Sr. retired in 2000 after practicing law for 42 years.

Burt Jr. was the elected Wexford County Prosecuting attorney from
1977 to 1981.  Since then he has represented clients in hundreds of
misdemeanor and felony criminal defense cases.
